Several Southern Illinois Chamber of Commerce Directors were recognized for their efforts in bringing electricity savings to their members.  The awards were presented by Affordable Gas + Electric (AGE) at a recent event at Walker’s Bluff in Carterville.  AGE manages the Southern Illinois Chamber of Commerce Bulk Electricity & Natural Gas Buying Group which is comprised of members from chambers including Jefferson County, Marion, Carbondale, Centralia, Salem, Herrin, Carterville, West Frankfort, Benton, Murphysboro and Lawrence County.

Dalus Ben Avi, Executive Director of Marion Chamber of Commerce, was recognized as facilitating the “Largest Savings For a Single Member” as well as “Collective Savings of New Member Participants”.  The Executive Director of Murphysboro’s Chamber of Commerce, Steve Webb, had the “Largest Overall Participation Increase” adding nearly 45% to his overall member participation level in the commercial electric buying group.  The biggest winner of the night was Les O’Dell, Executive Director of the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce.  Les and his team were responsible for the “Most New Member Participants” enrolling in their program.  With 33 new members opting to join the Carbondale Chamber’s electricity buying group, this propelled Les to the top spot of “Electrifying Chamber Director”.

The Southern Illinois Chamber of Commerce Bulk Electricity and Natural Gas Buying Group is a collective effort that combines small, medium and large chamber of commerce members together into large column buying groups that are attractive to suppliers.  AGE then bids the collective groups to qualified suppliers who compete to serve the aggregate electricity loads.  Collinsville based, Homefield Energy, has been a successful bidder and partner to the aggregate group for a number of years.  Homefield Energy and AGE hosted the recent dinner and awards ceremony to recognize the outstanding efforts of the various chamber directors in delivering real electric and natural gas savings to their members.
