Marion Chamber holds 5th annual Bass Tournament
49 boats competed in the tournament at Mack's Marina.

The Marion Chamber of Commerce sponsored the 5th annual two-person Bass Tournament at Mack's Marina on Sunday, March 15. The event was a fundraiser for the Marion Chamber Scholarship Program. 

Dale Dodd and Johnnie Dodd, both of Marion, took home $1,218.92 and the first place trophy for catching five fish weighing 21.07 pounds. They also took home the Big Bass trophy and $470 for catching a 6.17 pound fish. 

Toby Corn of West Frankfort and Jonathan Heyde of Marion took home $429.20 and the second place trophy for catching five fish weighting 19.95 pounds.

John Mocaby and William Mocaby, both of Marion, took home $311.16 and the third place trophy for catching five fish weighing 15.73 pounds.

In fourth place was Bennett Page and Tyler Neal, both of Benton, who caught five fish weighing 14.72 pounds. They earned $236.06.

Taking home fifth place and $171.68 was Tom Webster, of West Frankfort, and Pedo Webster, of Herrin, who caught five fish weighing 14.51 pounds.

In sixth place was Keith Bailey, of Simpson, and Brad Barger, of Stonefort, who took home $128.76 for catching five fish weighing 13.24 pounds.

Greg Marlow and David Smothers, both of Johnston City, earned seventh place and $85.84 for catching five fish weighing 12.63 pounds.

In eighth place was John Templeton, of Coulterville, and Greg Templeton, of Pinckneyville, who caught 12.54 pounds of fish. They were awarded $64.38.

30% of the entry fees went toward the Marion Chamber Scholarship Program. The Marion Chamber of Commerce currently offers two scholarships: John A. Logan College One Year Tuition Waiver and a Grad Spree Scholarship. The Marion Chamber of Commerce awards these scholarships based on the amount of money generated by the fundraising efforts from the previous year. The remaining monies from the tournament constituted plaques and the gross cash purse. 

Other sponsors of the event include Hill Printing, Mack's Marina and U.S. Angler's Choice.

Sponsors of the guaranteed $500 cash purse for 1st place were Bank of Herrin, Banterra Bank, MidCountry Bank, South Porte Bank and Farmers State Bank. The plaque/trophy sponsor was First Southern Bank.
