Looking to the Future - Growing New Energy Jobs

Last year, the Future Energy Jobs Act was passed with bipartisan support and signed into law by Governor Rauner. This is one of the most comprehensive energy bills in the country. Now, an additional $200 million per year will be available to build new solar and wind facilities in Illinois, creating more good paying jobs; preparing a workforce with competitive skills; and expanding the state’s legacy as a top energy producer.

Looking to the Future - Growing New Energy Jobs Downstate offers an opportunity to learn how to leverage available resources in order to bring new energy jobs to central and southern Illinois. This forum will be offered at two locations, and... is open to mayors, county board members, economic development directors, and community leaders in downstate Illinois. Meetings will be held on two dates and at two locations to maximize participation. Information presented at each
location will be identical:

June 13, 9am to 4pm – John A. Logan College

June 14, 9am to 4pm – Southeastern Illinois College

Registration is $15, which includes a catered lunch. Register at: https://prairierivers.org/sil_newenergyjobs/ or call Pam Richart at 217.607.1948.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Each forum will feature a panel of experts who will:

• Explain the job-creating components of the Future Energy Jobs Act.

• Highlight opportunities for job-creating renewable energy, energy efficiency projects, and the

potential for carbon farming (agricultural greenhouse gas emissions offsets).

• Identify funding sources (both state and federal).

• Discuss workforce training programs and small business development assistance available from state and local agencies.

Aur Beck, Advanced Energy Solutions, Inc., will keynote, sharing his experiences in helping to bring solar energy to southern Illinois. The afternoon session will be interactive, helping community leaders begin to think about opportunities for creating new energy jobs in their communities.

The June forums will be followed by others in July that will help community leaders build capacity; identify potential obstacles; and take advantage of opportunities identified in this initial round.

REGISTER TODAY

You can register at: https://prairierivers.org/sil_newenergyjobs/, or call Pam at 217.607.1948 to register by phone. Each venue has a maximum capacity, so don’t wait! Community representation by two or more people will maximize the effectiveness and reach of the afternoon roundtables.
