The Night’s Shield has recently purchased a backup generator to maintain consistency of care for the children served.

Lori Sisulak, of Ike Family Dealerships, organized the fundraiser, and the hard work of Lori, her associates, and a team of volunteers who sold over 900 tickets made the drawing so successful that the shelter was able to purchase a generator. It was by far the most successful fundraiser held since Night’s Shield opened its doors. “This is the most rewarding fundraiser we have ever been involved with,” said Lori Sisulak, dealer principal of Ike Family Dealership of Marion. “Looking beyond the money raised, it was OUTSTANDING to see the awareness raised about the Night Shield. We are looking forward to the next one in October, 2016.”

The Night’s Shield will now be able to continue providing uninterrupted warm meals, hot showers, clean laundry, and a comfortable atmosphere when disaster strikes leaving us without power.  The children will not have to be uprooted and moved once again and will be able to stay at the shelter for unswerving care.  This is a huge asset to our mission and programming.

“When uncontrollable power outages occurred in the past, the staff and residents had to temporarily relocate.  This was a huge undertaking to move residents, beds, clothing, medication, food, etc.  It is a relief to have the backup generator in place that has the capability to provide uninterrupted power to our entire building, “said Lindsey Bullman, Executive Director.

Night’s Shield is a private, non-profit organization that provides twenty-four hour emergency shelter for abused, neglected and/or abandoned children from the entire state.  As a child care institution, licensed by the state of Illinois, we provide a safe, nurturing and home-like setting for the children.  Our hope is to help reduce the current trauma these children are experiencing by providing them with support and stability.

The Night’s Shield opened its doors on August 12, 2009.  Since that day, we have helped over 1200 abused, neglected, or abandoned children of Illinois, ages 0 to 18.  We can provide care for a maximum of 14 children and youth at one time.

Although the shelter receives a contracted funding amount from the State of Illinois, the needs to meet are many.  The Night’s Shield is always dependent upon the generosity and support of the public to continue our ability to provide the most nurturing environment possible.  Donated funds are used to provide food, clothing, and all the normal necessities.

Many nonprofits around Illinois are scrambling, hoping to find funding wherever they can.  But the Night’s Shield found help in the face of hardship.  One Keys for Kids participant described the event as “ a win-win for the shelter, because it’s a donation for the kids.”  The generator is certainly a Win-Win.

The Keys for Kids fundraiser and the Ike Family Dealership in Marion, IL, along with all of its supporters have greatly blessed the Night’s Shield and all of the children and youth we serve.

So many hands played an important part in making this happen and we want to share the occasion and show our genuine appreciation!
