"Using Quality of Place and Event Tourism as
Economic Drivers - How Will Southern Illinois
Leverage the 2017 Total Solar Eclipse?"

The 2016 Southern Illinois Economic Development Conference will focus on the 2017 Total Solar Eclipse and what can be done in Southern Illinois to prepare for this historical event.

Community Leaders and a Nationally Recognized Consultant will be on hand to strategize how we can use the concept of "Place Making" to best prepare for the tourism increase during the eclipse.

Some of the topics that will be covered are:
- Eclipse Experts share their experience of total solar eclipses from across the globe
- Best Practices from other locations and the steps that are being taken locally to prepare
- Local Tourism Experts discuss their expectations regarding infrastructure and regional support
- Local and National Place Making experts explore and suggest ways our communities can better prepare for the large number of visitors expected for the event
