Ending homelessness among Veterans is a win-win situation for the whole community by freeing up resources and providing employment and housing for these Veterans.  At last years’ Stand-Down the Marion VA assisted 240 Veterans and 207 dependents with help from agencies ranging from legal and employment services, housing authorities, emergency shelter providers and other government programs.  This year we will welcome returning organizations as well as new ones.

We’re Asking for Help in Collecting items:

Helping to end Veteran Homelessness is going to take a community effort.  In order to help more Veterans, we would like to inform our community partners of some of the items that will help our Veterans in need.

Socks (all clothing donations must be new in the package for infection control purposes)
Underwear
T-shirts
Toilet paper
Paper towels
Personal hygiene items (deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, feminine products, brush, comb)
Laundry detergent
Household items (towels, pans, pots)
Non-perishable food
Bigger ticket items like tents, sleeping bags and winter coats are also much appreciated.

Additionally, we are looking for monetary donations so that we can purchase any additional items that were not received through donations.  To make a donation, please call our Voluntary Service Office at 618-993-4121 or email vhamrnvol@va.gov.

The VA has also assisted with securing housing for an approximate 27,000 Veterans nationwide over the past 5 years, but we continue to work diligently until Veteran homelessness comes to an end.

For more information, contact Beth Lamb in the Marion VA Public Affairs office at 618-997-8241, via cell at 618-964-5588 or email beth.lamb@va.gov.
