Ella York, Community Outreach Liaison with the Assistant Attorney General's office will be the speaker at the Marion Chamber of Commerce Legislative Affairs Committee Presentation on Thursday, March 19.
Ella's presentation will provide guidance for business owners regarding preventing, preparing for, and responding to security breaches. Entities that collect, maintain, store, use, and dispose of personal information must take steps to protect the data of customers. There will be a discussion of strong data security practices and guidance on complying with the Personal Information Protection Act.
Bio: Ella York is an Assistant Attorney General in the Consumer Fraud Bureau of the Illinois Attorney General’s Office. Ella is a native of southern Illinois. She received her law degree from SIU School of Law in 2009. Ella started her career in private practice with the law firm of Brandon, Schmidt & Goffinet in Carbondale before joining the Attorney General’s Office in 2011. In addition to her duties as an attorney, she does outreach for the office traveling the southern 37 counties giving presentation on topics ranging from consumer protection and identity theft to online safety and crime victim services.
The Marion Chamber of Commerce Legislative Affairs Committee meets on a monthly schedule. Its primary function is to monitor governmental matters that could impact the community or local business, present recommendations to the Chamber's Board of Directors, and to assist in the initiation of the appropriate action.
